Media Statement

SACE condemns the encouragement of learners to beat up teachers.

The South African Council for Educators (SACE) has noted with serious concern and dissapointing statements that is encouraging and inciting learners to beat up their teachers.

Those statements are actually detrimental to the schooling system and as such will lead to more ill-discpline in our schools.

It should be noted that SACE discourages and strongly condemns the use of corporal punishment and is prosecuting all cases brought to its attention relating to teachers applying corporal punishment. We call on all learners, parents and teachers to report such incidences.

We therefore call on learners not to heed this call of beating up their teachers instead we urge them to focus on their studies.

Preaching violence in our schools will never be a solution.
