Educators found practising with fraudulent qualifications will be prosecuted

05 August 2016

The South African Council for Educators notes the reports of the previous week which raised very serious allegations of fraudulent qualifications that are in possession of individuals who are practising as teachers obtained at the University of Zululand.

The report indicates that 400 to 500 fake degrees - many of which were teaching qualifications paints a very negative picture of our noble profession.

SACE condemns this practice of selling of qualifications as indicated recently. We wish to indicate that we have begun engagements with the affected University to verify and establish facts around this matter. In promoting excellence in the teaching profession, we will ensure that tough actions are taken against those individuals found guilty of practising fraudulently.

We call on members of the Profession and society to come forward with information that would assist the Council to adequately deal with these allegations.
