The South African Council for Educators delegates led by the CEO Ms Ella Mokgalana are in Abuja in the Federal Democratic Republic of Nigeria to attend the 7th annual Teaching and Learning in Africa Conference and 9th Roundtable organised by Africa Forum for Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) scheduled to take place from May 15-19, 2018 at NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

 

The purpose of the conference is to exchange notes on key issues such as creating protocols for international mobility of teachers, develop teacher qualification framework for Africa, facilitate co-operation among member nations for the benefit of the education systems of the various countries.

The countries that are expected to attend includes: Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Nigeria, Zambia,Cameroon,DR Congo, Botswana,Tanzania,Kenya, Swaziland, Ghana, Mozambique, Angola and Zimbabwe.

The Africa Forum of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) is an association of the national statutory agencies regulating teaching in the various African countries. Other members of the association are teacher education institutions, teacher unions, international development partners and civil society organisations. AFTRA is also the Africa Regional Branch of the International (World) Forum of Teaching Regulatory Authorities, IFTRA (www.iftra.org), with Headquarters at the Ontario College of Teachers, Canada.^MR
